ABOUT ME

I am a journalist, Press Freedom and Human rights defender, Author and Researcher. My focus is on Africa, the Great Lakes Region, Rwanda in particular. Passionate about reporting on issues that impact ordinary people. My reporting areas of interest are human rights, Politics, Security, Democracy, Corruption and Wars. With resolute commitment to social justice, I devoted my career to shedding light on vital issues and championing the right of marginalized communities.

MY ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Co – Founder of M28 Investigates / Unité M28: With other colleagues /
Rwandan Journalists we established and grew this non-profit media outlet
which I lead to become a crucial platform for investigative journalism across Sub-Saharan Africa. M28 Investigates focuses on equipping the next generation of journalists through training programs, capacity building,
and collaborative reporting projects. The organization has and works
towards strengthening investigative journalism in the sub-Saharan region,
addressing issues like governance, democracy, human rights, and corruption.
  • Public Interest Litigation (PIL): I played a pivotal role in landmark Public
Interest litigation cases at the Rwanda Supreme Court and the East African
Court of Justice, challenging restrictive laws on press freedom, speech, and access to information. These cases set important legal precedents, leading to reforms that broadened freedoms for journalists and the public, and reinforced accountability for the Rwandan government and powerful
institutions / Individuals. My efforts also contributed to the repeal or
amendment of these repressive legislation and expanded the legal
    protections for journalists and whistleblowers.
  • Recognitions: My work has been recognized by regional and international
bodies, receiving awards for contributions to investigative journalism and
press freedom. I have been a featured speaker at international journalism
conferences, and M28 Investigates has garnered support from prestigious
global foundations dedicated to promoting press freedom, good governance
    and democracy.
  • Promoting Accountability: Through my investigative work, I
have uncovered major cases of government and corporate corruption,
prompting public inquiries, policy changes, and legal investigations. These
efforts led to high-profile resignations, sanctions, and structural reforms in
key sectors such as public procurement and governance.
  • Innovator in Capacity Building: I developed a unique Learning Lab
model, blending traditional journalism with modern investigative techniques such as data journalism, digital security, and cross-border reporting. Through this program, we at M28 Investigates have trained and mentored over 200 students, journalists, and newsroom leaders from across Sub-Saharan Africa, many of whom have gone on to produce groundbreaking investigations in their respective countries.
  • International Collaborations: I have participated in international
Investigative collaborations with different international organizations /
Investigative Journalism consortium. These projects uncovered systemic
issues such as illicit financial flows, human trafficking, and environmental
crimes, impacting multiple countries. i.e. Rwanda Classified with
Forbidden Stories and other partners which examined the troubling
circumstances of the death of Rwandan Journalist John Williams Ntwali and also pursued the investigation that put the journalist in authorities’ crosshairs. Through this project we also looked into the hidden side of Kagame’s regime. From assassination attempts and suspicious deaths to intimidation and the use of surveillance technologies even against members of the ruling party, the project revealed how the Rwandan government sets about silencing critics at
    home and abroad.
